Dress #20 "When an idea takes flight...creativity soars in my empty nest."
Created from the feathers accumulated over the years for various craft projects, the challenge was how to get down to 10% and still showcase the various types of feathers. Left unused are my peacock feathers and a few from pheasants, geese and seagulls. Also remaining are 3 plumes which I will use another time. A ransom note is kept in the bottom drawer from the era of the Mingo Masters.
-wooden birdcage from the late 1990âs
-size 2 childâs dress purchased 5 or so years ago at Goodwill to use a bow off of it for another project
-black wings unused from some Halloween costume early 2000âs
-marabou boa parts
-shoe lace, red ribbon, hot glue, craft glue, lots of thread, wire, floral tape
-8 pipe cleaners with feathers attached that were used for scout neckerchief slides several summers ago
-red boa from the neckline of an old sweater (it got too scratchy!)
-goose feathers, seagull feathers and random bird feathers picked up on walks over the years
-natural and commercial dyed turkey and duck feathers (bags and bags!)
-black lace from the wings
-41 linear feet of hem tape to which feathers were glued and then sewn onto the dress base
-ransom note in the bottom drawer ( some scouts stole the pink flamingos from my yard), 2005
-counter chicken in the cage, a craft project I did with school kids which is why I have so many feathers!
Nametag is my 1983 Cleveland Museum of Art nametag
Stand â none used now although an antique chicken crate may find its way into this scene.
