The Daily Doodle Diary Dress
My first full sized napkin garment which started the Daily Doodle wearables line. The napkins are from my husband’s lunches which I pack each day. We use them as a form of communication about the trivial things in life that keep empty nesters connected. You will read more about these napkins with each garment in the coming pages. No base dress was used, I made it completely from scratch without even using a pattern or a foundation material, but I have since learned not to do that as napkins are too fragile.
A bit too ambitious, I used a zipper and some weighty detailing. The model in this picture was a bit too aggressive and tore up the back trying to get out of it. The garment needs repairs for exhibition but is aging nicely in storage. As I have learned, the napkins age by changing colors perhaps due to contact with other materials or the interaction with the ink use on them. Regardless, this aging adds a nice visual element to textile itself.
