Zipper-d-do-dah! - Salvaged Zippers Cocktail Dress and Vest
In addition to neckties and napkins, I also like zippers. This dress was inspired by the base garment salvaged from a discard bin at a thrift outlet. The one zipper that you see on the upper bodice is the only original one. The dress is spandex and meant to be pulled on, but not in my world. I added the rear zipper for easier access. Also added were straps to the shoulders and all the layers of zippers that wind down the dress. The small ones are from the fly of a pair of jeans, the longer colored ones salvaged from old clothing. Clustered at the hem are “Zip-pins” which I made and sold at the gallery. They are rosettes created from a single zipper, backed and sewn to a pin. So many were left when the studio closed that they became a featured element of this zipper dress. The vest is a deconstructed jacket with the back removed so as to show off a back tattoo. Zipper detailing is featured front and back of this garment as well. After completing this garment, I started to count things related to each piece I made such as how many yards, how many buttons, how many CDs and so on. As I have said, I learn more and more with each Hoard Couture creation.
