Pollock Paint Splattered Ball Gown -"Rock the Pollock"
Another ensemble created from a repurposed community art project. This particular First Friday event was called “Rock the Pollock” and attendees were able to toss and splatter paint all over big bed sheets laid out in my studio and then again later on the street outside. Originally, I had no idea what to do with them afterwards but over time, this vision came to mind. The skirt is 5 panels of cloth with pockets in the seam. It has a zipper and waistband like any normal skirt. The halter top uses existing denim button holes that attached to white buttons around the top of the skirt and up the back holding all in place. The buttons came from discarded medical lab coats. The crop jacket was added to use up more of the fabric. An attached lanyard from Journey Art Gallery is around the neck, the place where we created the original splatter art and all my now useless building keys are attached. I did this on purpose to give a custodial feel to the garment as drop cloths and working spaces go together. Each of the three pieces can be worn independently with other outfits in the real world if one would so desire.
