Ribbon Wrap Party Dress
This festive garment is based upon a vintage 1950’s wrap dress pattern I have used several times. Open and laid out, it is one piece of fabric. Yards and yards of Christmas ribbons have been de-wired and sewn together. A stripe pattern emerged from the use of solid ribbons alternating with decorative ones. The order was determined by the quantity of material remaining on each spool. Gold mylar ribbons have been woven together to make the basket-weave textile on the rear of the bodice with its adjustable waist so the dress can fit a variety of pre or post-holiday dinner waistlines! Keeping with the spirit of Hoard Couture, to use up as much of something as possible, a matching shawl and hat were added for runway wear. Don’t you agree there is a certain irony to creating a holiday themed wrap dress from the very things used to wrap gifts for the holidays? It should be noted that the source of the ribbons was not from my own stash this time, but happily donated by my friend Linda.
