School Shootings School Bus Cape
The cape pattern is from the 1960s when times were different. The color is school bus yellow with reflectors included in the detailing like the lights on a bus. The bullet holes number 52, one for each state, the District of Columbia and the “rest of the story” victims after the dress was originally finished. Incidents are recorded by state in alphabetical postal code beginning on the lower front right if looking at it (left if wearing). Victims are tallied from records found since 1840 of incidents where a gun was used in an institution of learning or education. Depicted as white paper doll shapes, each one hand painted, there are over 1555 bodies. Those with a red X were killed or died, those untouched represent the wounded. Events are in order but not specified here, hence the distances between X’s. One follows the states (bullet holes) as it goes around the cape and winds its way upwards. Additional victims since May 1, 2018 are recorded after the final hole.
Reported incidents with a gun that caused injury or death = 471; reported incidents with a gun, but no shots = 31; states with no reported incidents = Delaware, Idaho and Maine (tally is current as of Aug 2019)
A tally of bodies is kept on the chalkboard located near-by because this was a work in progress until COVID closed our schools in the spring of 2020. More incidents have occurred recently, but I have not the heart to keep going. My point has been made.
