Nap-mono (Daily Doodle #6)
I have been doodling on my husband’s lunch napkins for about 8 years now. A variety of garments and wall hangings have since been created which I call the Daily Doodle Diary series. Cocktail napkins are my favored sketch book so napkin doodles are merely an extension of this habit. Garment #6 is styled like a coat with kimono sleeves and an oversized stand up collar. Over time, as the paper ages and is exposed to light, it begins to change color which I think enhances the overall character. These daily napkins function as a form of communication between us, recording life events, describing my day or my emotions, or perhaps just commenting on the weather. For some reason he brings them back home so I store them away until enough have accumulated to make another piece. It is important for empty nesters to stay connected, even if all you learn is that the cat threw up again. The original napkin creation from the Hoard Couture small scale sculptural dress series is entitled “I will give you a doodle a day dear, I will give you a doodle a day”, and so I have.
