I screen, you screen, we all screen for fashion

“Window screening and netting were used to embellished this upcycled skirt and create a free form wrap cape, whose shape was determined by a discarded hat brim. The headpiece is wired window screen (wires reclaimed from that earlier ribbon wrap dress!)”
Above is the commentary read while this garment walked the runway. I was given the base skirt by a friend who wanted to see what I could do with it. The black mesh layers were intriguing and called out for even more. I had a few rolls of window screening mesh lying around the studio so I cut out leaf shapes and each one hands down on a long thread so they flutter when walking. Perhaps 80 of them encircle the skirt on the lower portion. A large wrap around cape is comprised of many yards of gathered screening stitched to the deconstructed brim of a straw hat which had its own memory and determined how the cape ultimately fit around the body. The head piece is also gathered screening and salvaged ribbon wire. A model must wear a neutral body suit under this garment because of the sheerness and roughness of the textiles.
