COVID Coat #1

“This coat is made from salvaged remnants of sheer fabrics, rescued from the discard bin at a textile warehouse. The challenge was to use every piece of fabric since additional supplies were not available during the COVID lockdown. Extra-long sleeves protect your hands from germs too! The underdress is made from curtain sheers once used at the 2019 Angel Auction for display décor.”
Above is the commentary read while this garment walked the runway. Limited to supplies on hand during lockdown, I challenged myself to create a full garment using only supplies on hand that felt as if they should be together. Sheer fabrics are very fragile and these remnants were showing some serious damage so I had to work around and rearrange these areas. Because of this delicacy, all of the seams have been hand stitched. As this coat emerged, it presented an Asian inspiration which had not been planned but worked beautifully with neutral colors. The coordinating dress mentioned above is not shown in the photographs you see here.
