The Garden of Greed Coat
How to display a collection of vintage costume jewelry, old buttons, and a few elegant pieces? That was the dilemma presented so a coat with the name formerly used for a collage series (by the same artist) was conceived. The base coat is made from two afghans, one large in blue and a smaller one in green so as to have enough length (both from a thrift store). The lining is gold satin fabric from the 2019 Angel Auction décor and a crocheted scarf from the thrift store. The crocheted flowers of various sizes were found online via FB marketplace from 5 different sellers so there was not real idea what was to arrive. Layering of colors and jewelry was great fun. Gold braiding, jeweled trim, and additional costume pins and earrings completed the add-ons. Nothing arrived with any embellishment, it is all added. The sleeves are from a third discarded throw and their shoulder pads visually balance the overall garment. One interior button holds it closed at the neck and the black ties wrap around behind the stand-up collar for additional weight support. The collar and cuffs are real fur. (Greed was the theme!) The overall weight is very high, well over 20 pounds if not more. It also has pockets and matching faux fish purse from the garden pond.
