Trained and Ready
“You may remember the textile décor that covered the wall between the restrooms at the Civic Center during the 2019 Angel Auction. But if you don’t, here it is again! The ribbon wall has been reimaged as the train for this salvaged vintage 1960s dress that was found in a trash bin.”
Above is the commentary read while this garment walked the runway. You have probably figured out by now that I reuse much of the materials used for community event décor whenever I am the chairman. For this garment, I used the Christmas ribbons that had been de-wired and sewn together in long strips to create a wall covering outside some restrooms. My salvaged dress, which had been handmade by someone long ago based on the wear, the fabric, the styling and the stitching, was a perfect match to the ribbon remnants so I paired them in such a way as to use all of the available yardage. This plan allowed for three layers of cascading ribbon with the final floor layer rewired to keep the final result from appearing too showgirl-esque. Pearls and an applique were added for elegance. The sequin color is original to the garment.
