Luxury Travel Dress and Coat
Lux Coat and Lux Dress for Luxury Travel
A two piece ensemble created specifically for a Fall 2021 fashion show. The dress came first. The base garment is vintage 1980s prom from which I had resourced its skirt area for another project. Left over was the gold lace overlay top in all its one shouldered glory. I believe it is meant to be strapless but not in my world. A new skirt was created using several layers of materials already in my studio inventory; black gabardine, gold satin (Angel Auction prop fabric), black netting, white rabbit fur. The fur is from a white rabbit coat which I purchased on the Marketplace site that someone had used for a Halloween costume. I deconstructed the pelts, lined them with gold satin and sewed to the black fabric. Along the attachment line and at the gathering point are rabbit fur balls in black and white that came from some odd yarn skein found at a thrift store. The shoulder is also a strip of fur and a gaudy sequined applique. A black shoelace functions as a shoulder strap to keep the opposite side in place. This dress is paired with the golden coat seen on the other page.
The Lux Coat was purchased from the costume section of a thrift store. It had a quality label in it but someone made a poor judgement call and sold it cheap! I added the big black bow and optional matching belt. The collar of real fox fur is also added to enhance the sense of luxury. This collar was salvaged from a strip of leather obviously torn off of another garment and tossed into the trash. 2021
