Momma Remembers

Thirty three years ago, I thought how wonderful it would be to make my newborn son a quilt from his baby clothes. Then along came a brother and my “quilt” became hand-me-downs instead. The plan then became a two quilt project that never got past one finished panel and the cutting up of worn outfits. Fast forward to a “clean and clear” session of the studio and no heart to throw away these bits and pieces of the past. So now I have a coat made from, and lined with, my children’s clothing from 1990-1997. The sleeves are the arms and legs of their pajamas and shirts. The collar is 2 infant onesies, the closures are wrist rattles and the inner hem is trimmed in socks. Embroidered on the outside are words which define who my boys are as adults: doctor, engineer, home owners, dad, Eagles, husbands, men, CWRU and UC.
To complete this monstrosity of memories, I included photos of my sons wearing the actual garments where possible, at least 30 of them. There is even a photo of my Grandson wearing his Daddy’s clothes! Perhaps someday they will bury me in it.
