Wack-Job Jennie Was Wound A Little Too Tight
36 x 24
2010 / #5
This piece seemed to have universal appeal while on my easel. It was in progress during the August First Friday open studio night and many people laughed at the image and made references to their own relatives. The character and situation are based upon a relative of my own who has an obsession with her white carpets. Why one would put white carpets in a home entertainment area used by two young rambunctious boys is beyond me, but all must abandon their shoes and put on slippers in order to walk upon the sacred space. A basket of slippers sits by her front door for those who do not BYOS.
The situation depicted is my take on what a formal dinner party would look like at her house. Her husband is a corporate guy so company parties should be part of the standard business routine at their level of pay. Can you see some VPâs wife having to put on a pair of slippers with her designer dress? The guests seem to have caught on to the absurdity of the event and are having a bit of fun at the hostessâ expense.
