Guys Night Out
Guys Night Out

I have many male friends and often am referred to as âjust one of the guysâ for a variety of reasons. This painting makes fun of what it would be like if the ladies came over for a âguys night outâ while the guys are having a night out. Just what do they do when they go âoutâ? (Which is often really just staying âinâ at somebody elseâs house watching âthe gameâ on TV?) I had to think about this one a bit since my guys donât go out or watch sports on TV. My media resources came in handy for this piece.
We have the sports jerseys on several of the characters and underwear on the others. Grandma wears her housedress, which is as casual as she intends to be, but still refuses to give up the jewelry and is not too happy with the whole situation. The youngest is eating a slice of pizza and having an alcoholic drink. I am assuming that at some events, the under-aged are provided with such perks regardless of the laws. The 4 middle-aged characters are shaving, burping, munching snacks and smoking cigars or cigarettes. There is some physical contact between the women as males seem to be more physically interactive when watching or playing sports than at any other time. Dirty dishes and a collection of sports balls line the back of the piece. Nobody is getting a manicure or doing anything particularly female. They sit like males, or in disregard of being female, and are not overly made up or bejeweled. The Troll is a personal reference but can be seen as a little guardian of the male domain while the guys are out.
Under the pink stool (okay, I had to put something which shows the woman of the house had some decorating input) there appears a dog with a new toy in its mouth. That is all I have to say about this one, period. The rest is up to you.
