In the slang of some of today’s youth, a “booty call” is a term for having sex just for the sake of doing it. Calling a “F-buddy” for some action is as common as using the cell phone nowadays. When I first heard the term, the idea for my painting came to mind right away. I was past the age of diapers and middle of the night accidents, but those memories can last a while.
The character in this painting is making a middle of the night booty call to care for some booty action of another sort. She appears tired and worn (is it the mother or the grandmother?) but not too unhappy about seeing her baby and caring for its needs. An expression of resignation and amusement crosses her face at this early hour of the morning. Maybe it was another 3am booty call that got her into this situation in the first place!
