Dyslexic Life Drawing
Dyslexic Life Drawing
40 X 30
2010/ #6
Life drawing classes are a staple of most art programs on the college level. Regardless of what media one will eventually specialize, the ability to draw the human form from an actual breathing model is the most basic of skills. It forces one to see shapes, proportions, tones and often times more than one really wants to view. The models are not hired for their beauty. The best models are curvy, wrinkled and oddly proportioned. The best moment in any class is on the first day when young students suddenly see a model of the opposite gender drop their robe and begin contorting their body into quick 20 second poses called gestures. Dignity flies out the window, if there were ever any in a life drawing classroom.
This painting is about life drawing class only in reverse, or dyslexic, in that the model is fully dressed and the students are nude. The various students represent the different types of models I have encountered in classes over the years. A few âvisualâ puns are added as per my signature approach to any issue so view their drawings carefully. Of course my classroom has windows and in the far distance, you may see someone with binoculars.
