Balancing Act

“Balancing Act” is about those women who insist on doing it all. The concept of a birthday party allowed me to use lots of patterns, colors and chaos while saying just a bit more. There are equal numbers of hats, blowers, etc…and she has that clipboard thing going on as well.
The piggy piñata I call the hurling pig as she is squeezing out the contents and the candy falls away leading your eye past the cake carrier, candles, and camera. (Yes, the “C” thing is on purpose). The apples are spilling from the torn bag, the forks are balancing on the packages, one of which is tearing as well, and the balloons are trailing behind. One balloon has popped which could be the reason for her bug-eyed expression. Her gum is the same shape and color…will it pop too?
As always, she has her nails done, jewelry on and some serious shoulder pad issues on the dress, which symbolizes that she is carrying everything on her own shoulders. The backpack is necessary for additional carrying potential and also because I use a backpack for camping. All my paintings contain some personal reference besides my signature.
The patterns of the hats and paper can be found in other paintings. I tend to stick with ones I like and use them over and over. Spirals are my favorite doodle. The one element people look for and will not find is a cell phone. Guess you just can’t have it all.
