The Gimmie Girls And Their Evil Sidekicks
The Gimmie Girls And Their Evil Sidekicks

First, let me explain what a âgimmieâ girl is all about. These are young women, from their late 20âs to mid 30âs, who feel that the world owes them something. They are materialistic, status conscious and can never be told they are wrong. They share their opinions with everyone else, but donât you dare share yours with them. They expect the best of everything and feel that others are born to provide it. They are experts at all things, but are generally lazy and self- indulgent. They follow the latest trends and consider anyone who does not to be beneath them. They probably worked a job until married and then the job becomes one of being a social scene-stealer. If still single, their job is more important than yours no matter what. Children are a competition sport meant to be compared and molded, not necessarily loved.
Sidekicks are the enablers to these women. They fawn and support and provide a buffer of pseudo-friendship. In the old days, they would be called âyes menâ. A sidekick cannot be prettier, smarter, or richer. They should know their place so to speak.
This painting uses the fashion show scene to depict many gimmie girl characteristics. I used to work the runway on both sides of the curtain. It is world of fake people, phony importance, and shallow ideas, but lots of fun to be a part of anyway. The front row characters are gimmie girls: dressed in the same color family and accessorized with a turquoise scarf, wearing large jewelry and sporting identical haircuts, judgmental and self important in manner and perspective. The second row are the evil sidekicks seen as âsee no evil, hear no evil, speak no evilâ in their opinions about the fashions on the stage as the front row gals seem to like them. The fashion show itself makes fun of fashion as an industry that wants to dictate our tastes even if the concepts are absurd. The cats are on the catwalk as part of the show (seems only natural doesnât it?) and the Siamese has an attitude like the Gimmies while the fat cat following is a bit more skeptical. Find the dollar signs on them as well.
