Layering is often best saved for cakes

Layering Is Often Best Saved For Cakes
18 x 36
2010 / #12
Yet another visual exercise to see how much of one concept I can work into an image. Layering of clothing is a good idea if one plans to go winter hiking or avoid taking too much luggage when flying. As a fashion statement however, the concept is not always in the best of taste. I have collected images of some of the worst ever examples of layered fashions. My painting cannot even come close to the hideousness of some of what is in my files. Due to copyright laws, I cannot paint those, so I selected some of the more distasteful ideas and put them all on one poor model. A few obvious and probably hideous puns on my part are also part of this image. Surprisingly when all is said and done, the outfit is not all that bad due to the cohesiveness of basic color and pattern theory. This is my first smaller and elongated format which necessitated the awkward yet flexible positioning of her long limbs. The Scottie dog is used for a reason. See if you can locate why.
