A Woman of Substance
A Woman of Substance

I will be the first to admit that my paintings are not loved by everybody. It is a good thing too. I donât have time for it. This piece was in response to an entry left in my guestbook during a local solo show. I asked who had left it (the cowardly woman did not sign her name) and the gallery director told me. In a nutshell, she had written (and you may feel free to write whatever you want! I welcome it) that my work had no depth, no purpose and no substance. She went on to say that my paintings were only about big breasts (I am being nice and not using her words exactly) and left little to the imagination. Okay. That sounded like a challenge to me. Obviously she is one of the âdoesnât get itâ people who lack a sense of humor.
I decided to paint a painting with some substance to it. Not only would the painting have substance, so would the figure, and she also has some class, hence her fine art figures, which do happen to leave something to the imagination! With her shovel (a personal symbol used repeatedly by me to represent those who move a lot of BS) can be used to make lots of depth in the sand around her. I figured I got the substance and depth parts down so now I needed a purpose. That made choosing a face really easy. Now if I could only get it exhibited locally and have her come backâ¦â¦.
