The Layover Sleepover
40 X 30
2008 / #3
If you have read my bio, you would know that I am a band mom too. This past winter break, I chaperoned the band to Arizona to play in the Fiesta Bowl parade. A select few of us (16 students and 4 adults) did not fit on the charter plane so we got to fly commercial….through Denver….and Chicago….on New Year’s Eve…when it snows and stuff happens. Yeah, stuff happened!
This piece depicts our night in the Chicago airport and some of my personal frustrations and funny moments that made it a night to remember. (Not necessarily fondly at times). I am a camper and used to being without comforts or necessities. Most people are not and find it hard to adjust. Did I say that nicely enough?
We celebrated New Years’ with some party hats and a dinner of leftover sandwiches. In the painting however, you will find a cinnamon roll (copyright prohibits the exact name) and of course some coffee (Pictionary anyone?). The vacuum guy in back was a real incident and the company name worked out great, but yes I made it up for a reason.
The flight cancellation board is hard to see on the website but worth reading in person. Weather can be “Wicked” you know!! There are a few other references that will be known only to those who spent the night or maybe only to me and we will leave it at that.
